This is Phillip Allman, 99 at the time this photo was taken in 2022, and hailed as possibly the world’s oldest tennis player. He reminds me of the title of a book in my tennis library, Never Too Old to Play Tennis by Mansfield Latimer.

There’s a comforting thought to the notion that one is never too old to do certain things and, it logically follows, that it is never too late. I started tennis at 69 (I’m now 75) and hope that I can be as active as some of the 80+ year olds I play with when I reach that age.

No one escapes the effects of aging in the physical world. There is another world, however, where age doesn’t count. In other words, it’s never too late.

It’s never too late to accept Christ or deepen your relationship with Him. The thief on the cross did it with only seconds to spare (Luke 23:39-43). What happened in the past doesn’t have to determine your actions now. Forgiveness, redemption, and acceptance are waiting to be claimed; and your ranking doesn’t matter. The only puzzling question is, why have you waited so long?

Join the game of eternal life.
