Doubles is not two players playing independently.
Effective doubles is two players matched as one. They know each other’s game, skills, weaknesses, and strengths. They have a strategy they execute together: they move together, anticipate each other’s moves, and compensate when needed.
You will never hear an effective doubles team say “stay on your side of the court.” And really good teams communicate on each point.
We are called to be team players with our doubles partner in life beyond the tennis courts. That partner is Christ. We strive to be of one mind—His, not ours. In fact, it’s His racket and ball we play with, and His court that we play on.
