In early May, 2024, Casper Ruud was soundly beaten by Tsitsipas at the Monte Carlo Masters. One week later he came back to defeat Tsitsipas at the Barcelona Open. How did he do it?
He changed his game plan strategy. Ruud understood his weakness at MonteCarlo. “In the final in Monte Carlo I was always on the back foot, too far behind, and he had too much time to control the game,” said Ruud. In Barcelona, Ruud attacked Tsitsipas with a change in baseline tactics which helped him control the game after an early break.
Repentance is another name for changing your game plan. In life, it means to stop doing what is defeating you and to return to what brings you victory. Like Ruud, it begins with understanding your weaknesses.
My weaknesses are many, especially off the court. Gratefully, I have Holy Scripture to frame a game plan, the Holy Spirit to encourage me to change, and a savior to accept me when I fail. To be victorious, therefore, is to change my game plan to embrace Him.
